Dategad Fort Patan, Satara

Today I visited this well know Fort of Patan called Dategad Fort near Patan City. After acquiring this Fort Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj change this Fort's name to "Sundargad". History: In the 15th century the Fort was under rule of Shirkhe's after some years King Malik Uttujar won this Fort from Shirkhes and brought Dategad Fort under rule of Bahamani Empire.

After separation of Bahamani Empire this Fort got under rule of King Adil Shah's ( Mughal Emperor). In 1572 Patankars conquered this Fort.

After assassination of King Awzal Khan, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj got this Fort under his Rule, then Maharaj gave responsibility of this Fort to a Sadar Named Salunkhe. Salunkhe was well known in Patan Taluka, because of this, people recognizes him as Patankar.

After death of Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj this Fort got in rule of Mughals. In 1689 Marathas conquer this Fort again from Mughals.Chatrapati Rajaram Maharaj awarded 34 villages in Patan Takula to Santaje and Patankar due to great bravery during the war.

In 1745 because of arguments and grudges between Peshwas and King Tulaji Agre, King Tulaji Agre challenged to conquer this Fort but he failed to do so. Attractions: Sword Shape Step Well: There is one Step Well inside this Fort which I would like to call "Steps To Heaven", this Step Well was designed in Sword Shape and it looks very Beautiful and Classy.

Theres also (6 foot long) Lord Ganesha idol and (8 foot long) Lord Hanuman idol inside the Fort which is made by sculpting rocks.

Also the Enterance of this Fort has very nice design. The entrance of the fort is been formed by sculpting huge rocks.
